This donation will help a lot to achieve our mission. Over the past several decades, The Circle Theatre of Barnwell SC, a 501(c)(3) performing arts organization established in 1974, has provided live entertainment to the community. Circle Theatre is comprised of all volunteer actors, directors, and production personnel from all walks of life. The building that houses the group of thespians is a historic landmark and maintained solely by the efforts of the performers. In 1980, the Barnwell Historical Preservation Society was established to move and convert the Old Presbyterian Church to make way for a new Presbyterian Church (a building now owned by Barnwell County School District #45) and provide a permanent home for The Circle Theatre. The Old Presbyterian Church, originally built in 1848, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Circle Theatre’s pledge is to maintain the outside of the building in keeping with its original style. Maintaining a 175-year-old building has proven to be a herculean task. While the interior of the building has undergone many renovations to function as a modern theatre in the past 39 years, the original exterior and foundation is in critical need of repairs far beyond the financial capability of the theatre’s modest annual budget. An angel donor has come forward in response to the professional quotes to stabilize the foundation, replace stairs and other rotten wood, and bring the building up to safety and ADA requirements. Our goal is to raise $30,000 for which we could receive matching funds from our angel. Please help us achieve our goal and preserve this one-of-a-kind historical landmark.
